Don C. Johnson, CLI, CII
Trace Investigations’ founder and president is a former photographer and military intelligence analyst, who entered the private investigation business in New York City as a field agent for Burns International Investigation Services. After a number of years traveling the United States investigating insurance fraud, Johnson started Trace Investigations in Bloomington, Indiana in 1990, specializing in litigation support services for personal injury and criminal defense attorneys. Johnson is a founding member of the Indiana Society of Professional Investigators. In 1997 he became the first Certified Legal Investigator™ in the state of Indiana. In 2001 Johnson was appointed to the Indiana Private Investigator and Security Guard Licensing Board, and currently serves as chairman. He has received numerous awards and honors, including life membership in the International Intelligence Network. Johnson serves as chief investigator and case manager at Trace Investigations, also an established regional pre-employment screening firm and a member of the National Association of Professional Background Screeners. Johnson is proud of his team at Trace Investigations and grateful their clients keep returning for solutions to their legal concerns.
Rebecca Medlock Johnson, MBA
Co-owner/Vice President/Chief Financial Officer
Trace Investigations’ co-owner is a former marketing representative and bank officer, who brought nearly two decades of business development and banking experience when she joined our firm in 2001. A graduate of Indiana University, Becky received her Master of Business Administration from Indiana Wesleyan University while serving as a vice president in a regional bank. In addition to her company management duties at Trace, she is also an experienced investigator, working primarily in intellectual property investigations. Becky was instrumental in setting up our firm’s background screening service and continues to manage our screening analysts. She is a life member of the Indiana Society of Professional Investigators.
Tina M. Skirvin, CCDI
Since joining Trace Investigations in 2008, Tina has worked hundreds of cases, including elder fraud investigations and numerous investigations and witness interviews in personal injury and criminal defense cases. She has been praised for her work in criminal defense investigations by attorneys with the Indiana Public Defender Council. In June 2015 Tina received the prestigious designation, Certified Criminal Defense Investigator, awarded by the Criminal Defense Training Council. Prior to joining Trace full time, Tina was a senior criminal court reporter in Monroe County Circuit Court. She brings her many years in the criminal justice system to good use in her investigations in the private sector. Tina has a degree in paralegal studies and previously worked for a law firm in Bloomington. A member of the Indiana Society of Professional Investigators, the National Association of Legal Investigators and the National Defender Investigator Association, Tina is Trace Investigations’ chief field investigator and works closely with our clients.
Christine R. Koryta
Christine Koryta is the Managing Partner at Background Trace, LLC, a division of Trace Investigations, Inc. Christine manages existing and new client services related to background, pre-employment and post-employment screening. She has a Bachelor of Arts from Eckerd College, a Master of Fine Arts from Florida International University, and spent a decade as the administrator for a non-profit organization located in St. Petersburg, Florida. Christine is a member of the National Association of Professional Background Screeners and the Society of Human Resource Management. She brings her unique skills in information and resource management to Trace Investigations.
Rebecca “Becca” Gieselman
Legal Investigator/Screening Analyst
Starting as an intern in January 2016, Becca Gieselman came to the job with a curious mind and a journalism background. She earned a bachelor’s degree from the Indiana University Media School in December 2015. Her background in journalism proved valuable and Becca joined the Trace team full time in June 2016. Becca works both in our legal investigations and pre-employment screening divisions. As an investigator, she specializes in social media research and internet profiling. Becca also works insurance defense and family law cases and criminal defense investigations. In our pre-employment screening division Becca’s duties on a daily basis include processing, analyzing and reporting background investigation results.
Nigel B. Newlin
Nigel “Buddy” Newlin specializes in courthouse research, covering Trace Investigations assignments throughout southern Indiana. Buddy served with the U.S. Army First Infantry Division, “The Big Red One,” during the Vietnam Era. Returning to his native Indiana, he attended Indiana University majoring in history. Buddy serves on the board of directors of the American Legion post in Bloomington, Indiana and has been recognized for his community volunteer work by the local chamber of commerce. He joined Trace Investigations in 1995 and worked as a surveillance operative and process server before assuming courthouse research duties.
Michael J. Koryta
An experienced legal investigator, Michael Koryta graduated from Indiana University with a degree in criminal justice. While in college, he worked part-time for Trace Investigations and as a reporter for the local newspaper before moving to Trace Investigations full-time after graduation. At the same time he was beginning his career as an accomplished novelist. A New York Times bestselling author, Michael has published nine suspense novels to date and has recently moved into television and screen writing. He has taught at IU’s School of Journalism and, fortunately for Trace Investigations, continues his association with our firm by taking on special investigation assignments.
